XP on a MacBook?!

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Windows? On a Mac? Besides novelty value, I had no effin clue why anyone would want this to be done. I’m not much of a gamer, and even if I was, the MacBook (with it’s lack of a harcore video card) isn’t ideal for games. Then one day while talking to my friend Kevin, I learned of this thing called Parallels. The selling point? Eff bootcamp — Parallels + VirtueDesktop is all you need. With a quick keystroke, I can load IE in XP and test out my web designs, switch back to OSX, make some changes, and then switch back again to XP. That, my dear readers is pure gold.

Seven hours, and three XP installs later (I went ahead and installed Bootcamp as well, but had to redo it because I didn’t format the partition to FAT32) I was surfing the web in XP. XP! After getting over the fact that I can switch between OSX and XP like I was alt+tab’n, I installed some ant-virus software, and then switched back and forth a couple of more times. Then I enabled windows file sharing, put the IP into the Run Menu and boom, I could share files from OSX to XP. Oh, and in bootcamp, for some reason my bluetooth mouse doesn’t work. That’s no problem when I’m running parallels. Mouse works fine.

I’m just starting to redo this layout, this junk is going to come in handy. Last redesign I had to find out that my site was all wonky by getting weird replies from my friends. “You redesigned your site? Oh… it looks…. nice…” Lying bastards, all they had to say was that it was effed up. I just wanted to keep you updated in case you came to this site looking for something new. Also, I’ve been reminded enough today of how much of a bitch CSS is.

Success!

I was able to successfully able to transfer all my old entries (and images!) to this new blog. Well, most of them. From February onwards I couldn’t save my entries, but I’ll just add those manually. Baby steps. New design soon… even if it’s just a temporary one.
